Inside Satera's New Marengo Shop: 7 Lifts, Big Plans

Satera Tuning 7 min read

We went live from 950 Greenlee Street the day before Halloween to walk through the new shop, lay out what changes for customers, and answer your questions on Trackhawks, 5.7s, 392s and the Six Pack.

The live opens on a key drop box. "My brand new Lamborghini," 2Lo says, then corrects himself: "my brand new pre-owned key drop box." Then he takes us inside 950 Greenlee Street in Marengo, Illinois. Lifts, CNCs, power and shelving are all going in. It's Friday, October 30, and the shop has had less than 30 days to make the whole move.

The list from the move reads like a freight manifest: 40+ vehicles, 7 lifts, 2 CNC machines, 1 dyno, 10+ engines and 10+ transmissions. All of it had to come over while customer cars kept moving through. Here's the tour, what we announced, and the best answers from the chat.

  • 40+Vehicles moved
  • 7Lifts
  • 2CNC machines
  • <30Days to move it all

The Walk-Through

Shelves first, then the shortcuts

The first stop is inventory, and that's on purpose. At the old shop, a lot of parts lived above the office, and the CNC machines ate up the rest of the room. The new layout roughly doubles our shelf space, with more shelving still on the way.

That space has a job. The goal is a set of ported heads on the shelf for a core-exchange program, so you don't have to pull your heads and wait on them. The same goes for complete engines: we're aiming for a forged 392 and a forged 6.2 built and ready, and maybe a 426. On the transmission side, the plan is to work with Sipple and have an HP90, an HP95 and maybe an HP70 built and sitting on the shelf. No NAG1s, though; parts for those are tough.

Seven lifts, two lanes

Three lifts up front handle quick jobs like oil changes, brakes, and Level 1 and Level 2 installs. Four lifts in the back are set at a 45° angle for long-term projects: cams, engine builds, fuel systems and dyno prep. Before the move we ran five lifts. Now there are seven.

Next to them is an open bay with no lift. That's where check-in inspections happen when a car gets dropped off. If you're comfortable with an open trailer, you can pull in, unload inside, and drive out the last bay. Fab gets its own corner with "old faithful," our biggest lift, next to the first two CNCs. The shop also has heat and AC all year, which isn't common in Illinois.

I could leave a dyno car on the dyno for 3 days and not get in the way of the guys wrenching.

Satera Tuning

The dyno gets its own room to breathe

At the old shop, the dyno pit sat in the middle of the floor. A car on the rollers blocked a lift. At Marengo, the dyno has its own section. It's still the same Dynojet 224x, and it's going back into the ground.

On the live, we said full operation should be back within about two weeks, give or take. That timeline was as of October 30, so check with us before you plan a dyno day. Why stick with Dynojet? In our testing, the same-model Dynojet with the same software reads within about 1% from shop to shop because the machines self-calibrate.

On the far side of the building from the dyno is a detail bay with filtered running water and floor drains. Past the back wall is an attached 3,200 sq ft space, and the goal is to take it over before the end of next year.

What Changes for You

Every build gets its own film

Jeremy also built our own customer communication app. That's why some of you have seen a new texting number, and why emails now come from our direct addresses instead of a third-party service.

The bigger change is how builds get documented. Build customers will get a video at the end, roughly 5, 10 or possibly 15 minutes of clips. It shows the techs working and explains which stage the build is at and why. You get a link to it, and it goes public on our YouTube so the next owner can see how the work gets done.

We build street cars you can race, not race cars for the street.

Remote tuning, refocused

Remote tuning is staying. Jeremy was clear that it's moving to what he called "a premier and premium experience." It takes more of his time than anything else in the business. He'll still support the tune on your vehicle for life. Diagnostics or data-log reviews that come up after the remote session ends are a separate service. Cars running a Satera package will be supported the same way as in-house builds, and owner-built combinations will be handled differently. Planning a remote tune? Ask us exactly what it covers.

Straight from the Chat

Trackhawk, booster pump, 900

Someone asked if a booster pump gets a Trackhawk to 900 at the wheels. Our Hellcat-powered Level 3 package uses a ported blower and a booster pump, and it normally clears 900 on that platform. The advice is to run the smallest supercharger that makes your number, because less rotating mass is easier on the drivetrain. Keep at least half a tank in it, because even with a booster pump you can see fuel pressure drop.

For proof, here's a ported 2.4L Trackhawk that made 986 whp and 869 lb-ft on E75. A good customer of ours built it himself, and the parts list equals our Level 3.5. We remote tuned it in a couple of days. When he drove in for dyno numbers, it needed no tuning changes at all.

Max-effort 5.7 vs a stock 392

How far can an NA 5.7 go? A 392 intake manifold, an underdrive pulley and ported heads is pretty much a max-effort 5.7, and that combo should be good for about 420–430 whp, give or take. For comparison, a 2018 392 makes 430–460 stock. E85 is essentially useless on a 5.7 because the compression is too low. The easy button is boost: about 6 lb puts it where a heads-and-cam 392 lives.

If you're staying NA, the pulley to run is ATI's 15% underdrive. It's what we ran on the shop car and on the NA builds that want to go big. For a real-world look, take this bolt-on 392 Charger Widebody with our Level 2 package (long tubes, catch can, in-house install with a smoke test) plus a 15% underdrive pulley. With the parts installed and no tune, it made 449 whp and 468 lb-ft. With our tune, it made 463 whp and 474 lb-ft.

  • 474lb-ft wheel torque

Boost on a stock-bottom-end 392

What about a stock-bottom-end 392 with an NA cam? We're pro turbo. Instead of 8 lb, you can run 4 to 5 and make the same power, with less heat and no parasitic loss; it just costs more. The cam isn't the worry. The risk is the stock pistons, because heat can pinch the rings and take out the ring lands. If you do open up the engine, rods and pistons are where we'd put the money.

Six Pack: no ECU access yet

There's still no full ECU access for the Charger Six Pack. Our honest guess is toward the end of next year, if not 2028, so keep an eye on HP Tuners. In the meantime, the factory airbox has given us our best ETs, our best 60–130s and our highest horsepower. Intakes like LMI's are for sound, and we're happy to set you up with one. Our Six Pack with the stock computer and a piggyback holds the highest documented dyno number at over 600 whp, and it consistently runs 11.30s and 11.40s.

Black Friday, Briefly

Black Friday runs through December 15: 5% to 20%+ off packages, and code BLACKFRIDAY26 takes 5% off packages. This week only, there's an extra 10% off header installations — any make, any model.

Ask Before You Buy

As of the live, we were booking new work into the second full week of December. Cars already at the shop come first, and we're still quoting builds. The best way in is to tell us about your car and your goals. Call 331.444.4570, email sales@sateratuning.com, or send a work request. Parts and packages are at sateratuningstore.com.

Stay tuned!
